Sashimi Dinner by theresahelmer Sashimi Dinner by theresahelmer
My nephew Scott loves fishing, outside of working, he is always fishing somewhere in the ocean or local lakes! I am often the benefactor. He is coming over for dinner tonight, i thought i would "treat" him Sashimi dinner with Miso soup. For dessert, shaved ice with red bean paste and fresh Bing cherries.

For presentation - What i did here is i used a piece of wood as my plate, the wood has been cleaned thoroughly in hot water and coated with vegetable oil. My nephew does not like daikon, so i julienne the carrots instead. I hope you like it!

It is such torture to make dinner like this...truth be told, i would much rather eat the entire dinner by myself.....So hard....To control the urges! Lol...

:bulletblue: Foot note - Did you know you can get free wood from Home Depot? They have a bin that is called the "cold bin", anything that are in the bin are free...This "plate" for example, I've gotten 6 pieces in total.

:bulletblue: Sashimi 刺身 is a Japanese delicacy consisting of very fresh raw meat or fish sliced into thin pieces.

Be careful with what wood you use from home depot..I worked there for two years, and a LOT of the wood is treated..

If it has a green tint to it at all, stay away from it. Our treated/primed wood has green in it. :)

Looks good :D
But besides catching the fish, do you know where to get sushi grade fish? I know you could probably get them from Asian markets and stuff but there aren't any around where I live :/
