Rainbow Macaroni Salad by theresahelmer Rainbow Macaroni Salad by theresahelmer
I made this for a backyard BBQ. A huge HIT! I use the silicone cupcake molds to serve the salad. This can also be a cute idea for your picnic at a park or baby/bridal shower. I made this dish again to show you that you can make rainbow pasta with any shapes, no rules equals to have fun with your own culinary creations.

:bulletorange: All you need

prepare your macaroni pasta as you would normally, cook until macaroni is al dente, rinse macaroni under cold water. Divide pasta into even portion of your preferred color theme in separate bowls (no rules here). I used Wilton Gel Food Coloring (red, blue, orange, yellow, green and purple). Rinse macaroni in cold water again. Add your seasonings.

:bulletred: Footnote - Food coloring, or color additive, is any dye, pigment or substance that imparts color when it is added to food or drink. They come in many forms consisting of liquids, powders, gels and pastes. Food coloring is used both in commercial food production and in domestic cooking. Due to its safety and general availability, food coloring is also used in a variety of non-food applications including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, home craft projects and medical devices.

Food coloring does not have any taste to them. Therefore it does not influence/alter the end result of the food you are preparing.

This looks nice!

One question however:

So, to apply food coloring to a pasta dish, I should just add the coloring to the pasta directly (no water nor oil needed) and mix it about as if I was mixing pasta sauce into the pasta.

Is this the correct assumption on how to apply the coloring to the pasta?
