* Great for children's birthday party, Baby shower (pink/blue hues), Bridal shower (the color of the wedding).
* Great for picnics. Put the lids on, pack your rainbow cake jars in your picnic basket. You are ready to go!
How to make this. You will need:
~ 1 white cake mix (any brand will do, or you can make the cake from your own favorite white cake recipe).
~ Wilton Food Coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple). See directions on the coloring packages. (see 1)
~ Small glass jars (any canning jars will do. I used the old pickle jars, which is fine)
~ Butter cream frosting ( here is a video on how to make butter cream frosting www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1fCla…
~ Sprinkles of your choice. Pink and yellow sprinkles were used here.
~ Preheat oven to 350F. Thoroughly wash and dry the inside of the canning jars. Spray the inside of each jar thoroughly with non stick cooking spray. Set aside.
~ Prepare cake batter as directed on box. Divide batter into 6 small bowls (see 1) .I did not make the color Indigo since i do not have this color (You don't have to be perfect when making the colored batter). Tint each bowl of cake batter with the food coloring until well mixed.
~ Spoon batter into jars (see 2). Fill the batter to the middle of the jars (do not over fill jars). There's no rules with the color combo, so be creative! Place jars in a shallow baking dish, add about 1/4" of water in the baking dish. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake 25-30 min.
~ Remove jars and allow to cool completely before add your frosting and sprinkles. (see 3)
