There are many varieties, for example, our State flower is a golden poppy, which is also bloom in the summer period. For this particular image, they are i think mostly in bloom in winter

Interesting - here they are part of our world in summer and I assume it´s just too cold here in winter for those fragile little things to survive. However, again, I´ve learned something new. ;-)
